Sorghum bicolor - Originally hailing from Inner Mongolia, they seem well adapted for much of Canada. Plump, reddish seed heads, which reliably ripen for us from a direct sowing in early June. I’ve always transplanted other later maturing varieties, so to be able to direct sow and still get a good crop is a game changer. I think Sorghum is one of the most promising grains for homestead and personal scale production, being fast and simple to process by hand. A gluten-free grain. 100+ seeds (2 g)
