I'm happy to have discovered sesame these past few years. These are beautiful and easy to care for plants, growing up to 3-4' tall in ideal conditions. By August they come into bloom, with spikes of beautiful pink blossoms. They’re worth growing for flowers alone. Pods begin to form shortly after, they turn from green to brown as they ripen. The pods are loaded with seeds, just shake them out when they’re dry and ready!
Sesame loves maximum sun and heat. 2018 was a great groing season for them, but cool and soggy 2019 also saw a decent harvest. Start indoors like tomatoes, and transplant out after the risk of frost. I had to cover them up with plastic sheets to get them through our early fall frosts, but otherwise they didn’t need any special care. 40+ seeds
