Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis -A different species than the common bean, Yardlong Beans are a cousin to cowpeas and black-eyed peas. Popular in Asia, but rarely grown in Canada. I've been growing this variety for the past several years, and it often out-yields many of my regular beans! The climbing vines bloom in late summer with sweetly fragrant purple flowers, followed quickly by the extremely long green pods. Not actually a full yard, but a solid 50-60 cm. Steam them or eat them raw. Compared to regular beans they're more firm and meaty, but never tough.

They loved our hot dry summer of 2020, and they were early enough that our September frost didn’t effect them. I’m still only learning about this plant, but they seem very promising for our climate. Limited supply, 25 seeds (4 g)
