Asclepias incarnata - Swamp Milkweed is the better behaved cousin of Common Milkweed. They don’t spread through rhizomes the way Common Milkweed does, instead forming a clump. Both species are equally good monarch habitat, their leaves being essential food for their caterpillars. The blossoms are also appreciated by bees and other pollinators. A beautiful flower in its own right, Swamp Milkweed is very much at home in perennial flower beds and borders. 3-4’ tall. Native to Nova Scotia, and much of eastern North America. 40+ seeds
