Fast growing, nitrogen-fixing tree with one of the hardest, most rot-resistant woods in North America. Black Locust fence posts can last for decades. They thrive in the poorest soil and are quick to re-establish forest on disturbed sites. Potential for high value coppicing, they regrow rapidly from root suckers. Beautiful, fragrant blossoms come out in June, and are one of the very best nectar sources for bees. Native to the Appalachian Mountains, and long since naturalized throughout the East.  Limited Supply - 30 seeds

Growing Info
Tricks for germination Black Locust have hard seed coats, and germinate more readily after hot water treatment. Simply pour boiling (or near boiling) water over the seeds and let them sit soaking for 2-3 days.
Sowing After hot water treatment, plant them in small pots. Either indoors early spring, or outdoors from late spring onwards.
Transplant outdoors I would grow the young plants in their containers for the first summer. Transplant to their final position either the first fall (after they go dormant) or before leaf out the following spring.
Soil Black Locust thrive in dry drought-prone soil. They fix nitrogen, so can tolerate low fertility. However moderately fertile soil is their favourite, as long as the drainage is good.
