New for 2024 - Helianthus argophyllus - This hardy and prolific annual is a wild relative of the common sunflower, native to the gulf coast region of the southeast US. Plants reach about 6’ tall and equally wide. Incredibly numerous small yellow flowers, starting in late July. The plants only grew more and more showy into fall, until the first hard frost finished them in early November. So named because the whole plant (stems, leaves and buds) are covered in a soft velvet-y fuzz, giving a soft silver appearance. The best late season food for honeybees, bumblebees, hover flies and other pollinators. Many small birds appreciate the seed heads. 40+ seeds
