Lettuce
Growing: Lettuce loves cool weather and plenty of moisture. Here in Nova Scotia I like to stagger my lettuce plantings throughout the Spring, starting as early as March (indoors) for the earliest harvests, up until hot Summer weather arrives in June. Lettuce tends to bolt in hot weather, but you can extend the season further into the Summer by planting your later sowings in partial shade and giving them plenty of water. Lettuce loves growing in the Fall too! Start sowing fall crops after the summer heat has cooled off a bit, starting around the end of August.
