Melissa officinalis - Beloved and almost carefree perennial member of the mint family, which has been cultivated since before Roman times in Europe. Use Lemon Balm fresh in iced tea and lemonade in the summer, or dry it for warm herbal teas in winter. The plants will spread by both rhizomes and self-seeding. Grow in containers or place in a corner of the garden where they can take over. The flowers are a bee favourite. 100+ seeds

Sowing Start seeds indoors about 6 weeks before the last spring frost (April is about right around here). The seeds are small, barely cover them and keep moist.
Transplant Outdoors after risk of frost
Spacing About 18" between plants. Over time they will spread through rhizomes, so place somewhere you don't mind them taking over. Alternatively, growing lemon balm in containers works well for small spaces.
Soil Lemon balm thrives in moist rich soil. They aren't too picky though, many different soil types will do.
Light Full sun to part shade
Life cycle Perennial
