New for 2025 - Clematis virginiana - Our native clematis vine. They go by many whimsical common names, including Old Man's Beard, Devil's Darning Needles, Traveller's Joy, Virgin's Bower and Love Vine. Here in Nova Scotia they are most often found growing among hedgerows and in moist riverside areas. Delicately fragrant white flowers appear in June, which are followed shortly by intriguing feathery seed heads, which turn to white poofs in the fall. They'll up bushes or trees, or a trellis if given the chance. The flowers are food for pollinators, and the vines are excellent cover and nesting for birds. The vines grow 10-20' and die back after each season, with blooms on first year growth. 100+ seeds
