Native Species
We're using a rather broad definition of native species for this category. That is, plants native to North America and also of their wild form (not cultivars). I encourage everyone to get to know which species are native to their home regions!
Also check out our Nova Scotia native species category below.
I'm excited to expand our collection of Nova Scotia native plants, specifically those of NS-ecotypes (local wild genetics). This work is a slow process, since sourcing seeds often involves finding them in the wild in order to start cultivating them. Stay tuned!
If your goal is to create a diverse garden and feed lots of local pollinators, I reckon most plants on this list will be good choices, even those native to another region. I've watched native bees go crazy for our plantings of prairie wildflowers, as much as they do our NS natives.
