Cornus mas - From a mix of red and yellow fruiting parents. Large shrub in the dogwood family, reaching 15-20' tall. They have bright yellow flowers first thing in the spring, followed by fruit in late summer. The fruit are test of patience until they're perfectly ripe, but when they're ready they're delicious (like sour candy). Hardy little guys, with no significant pests or diseases. 20 seeds

Grown by Twisted Brook

Cornelian cherry seeds have a long dormancy, requiring both a warm and cold stratification period before germination. We're selling these seeds pre-stratified. We've already done the warm stratification period, you'll want to keep them cold (in the fridge, or even outdoors in a snow bank) until sowing April onwards.

Note on shipping: Pre-stratified seeds require tracked package shipping ($20 per order), since they're too bulky for letter mail (our basic $5 option).

Growing Info
Stratification Seeds have a long dormancy period, requiring 16 weeks warm stratification followed by 16 weeks cold stratification. We are selling them partially pre-stratified. We've completed the warm part of the process, now you just keep them cold (in the fridge or perhaps outside in a snow bank) until sowing April onwards. Any seeds that don't germinate, don't give up on. They might just take another cycle of seasons to break dormancy, leave them outside and they may sprout next spring.
Spacing 10' between trees will form a nice hedge. Space them a bit further if you want a bushy specimen tree
Soil requirements Not picky, as long as it's well draining
Light Full sun
Cold hardiness zone 4
