Sium sisarum - Traditional root crop, well-loved in ancient and medieval Europe (it was a favourite of emperor Tiberius) but fallen out of favour in recent centuries. An outstanding perennial vegetable, gaining attention for permaculture and food forest gardens. Sweet, nutty and delicious, like a cross between a carrot and a potato. They're good raw, but get sweeter when cooked. Easy to propagate from seed or from crown divisions. The leaves, flowers and seeds are all edible. Hardy to zone 5. 50+ seeds
