Hippophae rhamnoides - Sea Buckthorn is an extremely hardy and drought tolerant thorny shrub, native to the coasts and steppe lands of Eurasia. Lauded as a superfood in recent years, its berries are rich in nutrients and antioxidants. Simultaneously sweet, tart and bitter; their flavour is difficult to compare to anything else. They happily grow in the poorest and sandiest of soils, and fix nitrogen (although not a legume). They have been used for erosion control on sandy coastlines, and are popular in permaculture-inspired landscaping and food forests.

Sea Buckthorn is relatively easy to grow from seed, compared to other shrubs. They don't require stratification. These seeds are from Twisted Brook Farm, collected from their plantings of improved Canadian and Russian cultivars. A mix of seeds from all parent lines, some of which are juicing varieties and others are oil varieties. Plants grown from seed are inherently variable, and will be 50-50 male and female. A diverse mix for the experimental grower! 20+ seeds
