Guatemalan Green Ayote Squash
C. moschata - Amazing green-fleshed fruit. Sweet and fruity flavour with a firm, smooth texture. Lots of diversity, definitely would be considered a landrace variety. Shapes range from slender long-necked fruit to round pumpkin shaped (however the majority are butternut shaped). Their flesh ranges from green to chocolate-orange. We noticed that cooking brings out the darker green (see photos). Long prolific vines. Limited supply, 15 seeds
-Grown by Annapolis Seeds
Because it’s a tropical variety, I was excited they matured for us here in the Annapolis Valley. They took a full season; we direct sowed them around June 1 and harvested around the first frost in October. I’m looking forward to working with them in future years and hopefully getting them increasingly adapted for the north.
