New for 2025 - Perhaps you already know sorghum as a grain crop, but did you know it's also a source of syrup? The mature stalks can be crushed and the juice simmered down into molasses-like syrup. Basically northern sugar cane! This variety is very early maturing, we harvested their seeds in early September from a an early June transplant. Harvest for syrup would be around the same time, late August or September. The seeds have tight hulls, and are better suited for chickens than for humans. 100 seeds

Grown by Annapolis Seeds

We didn't get organized to do a proper syrup boil this year, but we want to test it out next season. We munched on many a sweet juicy stalk though (I'm a fan of the chomp and twist technique).

Growing Info
Sowing Can be direct sown after the risk of frost. I prefer to start mine indoors 4 weeks beforehand to give them a head start.
Spacing About 6-12" between plants within the row, 24-36" between rows.
Harvest Stalks are sweetest when the grain is in the soft-dough stage
Soil Fertile and well draining. Sorghum is quite drought tolerant
Light Full sun
