New for 2026 - Basella rubra - Very cool and unique vegetable! Heat loving annual vine with thick succulent leaves. They're tender and mild all through the hot summer months when many other greens have bolted. The leaves have a slightly mucilaginous quality, similar to okra but less. Chop them into salads or sauté them. The vines will climb up any trellis or support you offer them, reaching up to 6-8' if space allows. By late summer and fall seed clusters start to form. The ripe fruit are intensely purple, and can be used for dye. Drought tolerant. 40 seeds

Growing Info
Sowing Start seeds indoors in spring (we start ours in April). Seeds can be slow to germinate, extra heat helps speed the process (heat mat recommended)
Transplant Outdoors after risk of frost has passed (early June around here)
Spacing 6-12" between plants. They grow vertically, so are happy to be close together as long as they have trellis space to climb
Soil Well drained, medium fertility
Light Full sun
Tips For growing Malabar Spinach in Canada, I'd say the more heat the happier the plants will be. They'll thrive in a greenhouse, or any sheltered south facing spot you can offer.
