Sweet Lorraine Fava

New for 2026 - Early maturing and very hardy. Smaller beans than most favas, but remarkably productive. Delicious as a dry bean, or as a fresh shelling bean. 3' plants.

Favas do best in mild weather and with consistent moisture. We often struggle to grow late maturing varieties, since in summer our sandy Annapolis Valley conditions gets too warm and dry for their liking. I find early maturing varieties like this one are a better bet, since they can be sown early and do most of their growing in the cool months. Sweet Lorraine is particularly cold hardy. In mild winter areas can be sown in fall and overwintered (allegedly they can overwinter to -17c)
