Sweetheart Beet

New for 2026 - Heart shaped beets! Developed by University of New Hampshire plant breeder Elwyn Meader in 1958. This variety came to us a handful of years ago and quickly found a place in our hearts. Sweet, deep-red and excellent winter keepers. They share some sugar beet parentage, which contributes to their sweetness. Currently somewhat variable in their shape; most have the distinctive top-shape while some are round. Each year we're selecting for top-shaped roots, so hopefully more and more will have that shape in future years.
